Money and Your Values Go Hand in Hand

Did you know that how you spend your money is a way of living in alignment? Did you know that living in alignment is a way of self-care?

While you are reading this, I would like you to make a mental note of what you spend your money on and ask yourself what value does that bring you.

Let’s say you value community, for example. You may be one that enjoys buying your coffee or lunch at a local mom and pop café rather than Starbucks.

Or, you may want to buy from a local consignment store instead of Simons or The Bay because community is a value of yours you enjoy spending your money in areas that helps support and build the community and our local businesses.

If you value beauty, you may spend your money on art, creating art, decorations, the spa, esthetics or vacations where you are surrounded by beauty.

If you value love and relationships and are having a hard time communicating with your partner, you may spend money investing in courses, books, or a therapist in order to achieve the level of communication skills it takes to have the relationship you desire.

If you value charity, you may enjoy spending money on a monthly or annual basis to support The Stollery, fighting cancer, Alzheimer’s, mental health, supporting children with disabilities, helping abandoned animals, the list is endless.

You may also value naming a charity as a beneficiary of your life insurance policy because then you know you will be able to make a big difference that won’t cost you a lot of money.

If you value security, you may value spending your money on strategic legacy planning for you and your family which includes a customized plan for your life, disability and critical illness needs. Having the right insurance in place will be your security blanket.

If you value dependability, perhaps you value putting money away into a TFSA on a monthly basis. This way you know that if everything falls apart, you can depend on your savings to bail you out.

If you value family, you may value putting your money into a policy that will change the legacy of your family forever for all future generations to come.

If you think about it, our relationship with money is a vehicle to creating a life we love. By figuring out what our core values are and directing our energy that way it will bring you more into alignment. This is why having a good relationship with money is important. Having an advisor on your team that understands your values is equally important so that they can help you create and live a life you love.

Food for thought. Have a beautiful day.
